Lockdown’s quiz night has tied our random group of individuals together, like a poorly packaged Christmas present wrapped in flimsy paper. But apart from Alex and Declan, I want to walk away from the rest. The fallout between Annabel, Clifton and Rihanna has nothing to do with me and it’s the last thing I need right now.

Joel’s irritating invitations to meet up only started after Barton’s shit-stirring and I’m not sure why he keeps texting. He knows I’m seeing Alex and that Declan is also sniffing around. It’s as if Joel thinks I know something more about Barton than I’m letting on.

Rihanna cried for the next twenty minutes after her loaded outburst before she finally shuffled out the front door. After announcing her suspicion that Clifton might have had Barton murdered, she clammed up. Perhaps in deference to her current situation with Clifton, the father to their impending baby, she felt she had gone far enough. Maybe too far.

I certainly didn’t want to hear any more, and my gentle suggestion that perhaps she go to the police with her suspicions, was ignored.

After Rihanna left, I forced myself back onto the computer and loading the memory stick, I reread Barton’s last email with the attached documents.

My mind swirled with questions. Was Barton warning me that he felt under threat by one of our group? Why did he want me to know all the shit about everyone? What am I missing and again I wonder, why am I centre stage?
